4 Excellent alternative to the standard CIC "blue box" 3PDTs
Posted by CR on 09/9/23
These are a big improvement over the more common CIC "blue box" type of 3PDT foot switches (Small Bear SKU: 0200). Functionally the same as the CIC switches, these Low-Profile variants have a significantly smaller footprint. Please note: the spacing between pins is different here, so it doesn't quite fit the PC Wiring Boards that Small Bear sells (SKU: 200A). Furthermore, I don't have the means to objectively measure the impact of clicking noise in the circuit, but to my ears I couldn't tell any difference. The only reason I don't rate this higher is because they aren't nearly as ubiquitous as the CIC switches, which is real shame: I'm afraid of getting too used to their dimensions for when I do enclosure layouts, then one day they'll just inexplicably disappear. As far as I'm concerned, if we can get some proper specs or a datasheet on this thing and it all checks out, this should be a new industry standard. Speaking of specs, here's the measurements I got: • Body: 17xmm (X) * 13.4mm (Y) * 13.1mm (Z, not including lugs) • Approximate spacing between lugs: 3.5mm • Lugs themselves are slightly thinner and more rounded than the CIC switches • Nuts, washers, bushing, and hole size are identical to the CIC switches • Actuator (i.e. the moving "plunger" part of the switch) sticks out a little less from the enclosure: about 4-5mm or so lower than the CIC switches.
